Those that did such as Quevedo and a few others, produced some amazing Ports that are rich, structured and deep that will mature over decades.

We first tasted this in April 2022 at the Big Fortified Tasting, It was very rich, round and thrilling. Dense and pure with a backbone and firm structure.

Churchill's Port, 2019

Quinta da Gricha- Vintage Port, Douro
Limited Edition- 3 x 75cl
***93/100 Wine Enthusiast***
***94/100 Wine & Spirits Magazine***

All Churchill’s ports are made from Grade-A grapes that are hand-picked, hand sorted, and foot trod in the ancient granite lagares (treading tanks) at Quinta da Gricha in the Douro Valley. We allow an extended period of fermentation in lagares to limit the amount of brandy required in fortification and leading to a drier style of port.

Tasting Notes Darkest colour like elderberry juice. Not yet open on the nose but starting to reveal the richness of damson and the scent of blueberries with a hint of vanilla sweetness. Rich and dense on the palate. Firm, dry tannins, with rich but not obviously sweet black-fruit flavours.

Prats and Symington, 2019

Chryseia

The 2019 Chryseia has received much critical acclaim as it is the first non-fortified Portuguese red to appear in Wine Spectator's annual Top 100 Wines. Chryseia has been one of the pioneers of the now widely-recognised resurgence of non-fortified DOURO DOC wines. However, this wine, whose name means "golden" in ancient Greek – as does the name of the river in Portuguese – has remained true to its own style. Elegance and balance predominate and it has depth without heaviness, and body without sharpness.

Vinhas Da Marka, Terroir Series
In Individual Case
***18,5 pts Vinho Grandes Escolhas ***

A few years ago, Quinta do Noval concluded an agreement with the Agrellos family for the long-term lease of the Quinta da Marka vineyard, which we had identified as having terroir of exceptional potential for the production of quality wines.

This potential was revealed by the excellent red wines that were produced at Quinta da Marka in the 2019 harvest. These were so remarkable that Noval decided to launch a very limited volume of Vinhas da Marka 2019 from a plot of old vines with 1.45 hectares at the heart of Marka.
These old vines planted in the 1930's are a blend of over 30 different traditional grape varieties.

Very deep purple black at the centre, with a narrow purple red rim. As usual, the fruit is wrapped in an envelope of exotic balsamic, minty, eucalyptus scents. The first impression on the palate is of roundness and a rich, velvety texture but there is excellent acidity and well-integrated grippy tannins which emerge on the finish. The soil in the Douro Valley is made up of schist - a slate-like metamorphic rock that fractures vertically, allowing the vine roots to dig deep to access water and nutrients to sustain them through the hot Douro summers. 22% of the fruit for the 2019 vintage was sourced from a small field blend parcel of over 100-year-old vines.

2018 Quinta do Noval
Noval has had a run of vintage port declarations in recent years and 2018 is no exception. Only 1600 cases have been produced from the 2018 harvest and quantities are tiny. Managing director Christian Selly offers his insight into the vintage: ‘Like 2017, 2018 was a year of low yields, but for different reasons. 2017 was a year of extreme drought, while 2018 was marked in the first part of the year by heavy rainfall. This meant that potential yields were naturally much reduced by the difficulties of the flowering period. Subsequently however, a long hot dry summer ensued.

Impressive purple-black core with a narrow purple rim. An intense burst of powerful woodland fruit, a dense coulis of blackberry and blackcurrant, almost overwhelms the nose. The black fruit aromas are infused with discreet notes of cherry and mocha. As would be expected of Taylor’s, the fruit is very fine and focused, but the year seems to have given it an additional layer of density and weight. A familiar veil of violet scent hangs over the wine, together with a fragrance of rose petal and wild, minty herbal aromas. David Guimaraens, Head Wine Maker
Commenting on the viticultural year: "The harvest of 2016 will be remembered as having started very late. Most of the vines in Pisca (a field blend of the classic port varieties, and a few wild cards) exceed 80 years in age. All the components for the 2016 Bioma Vinha Velha Vintage Porto were trodden by foot in circular granite lagares at the Vale de Mendiz Port winery.

Messias, 2012

Messias Classico Branco 2012, Bairrada
White Wine
18 pts- Revista de Vinhos

This wine is typically crafted from indigenous grape varieties native to the Bairrada region, such as Bical, Maria Gomes (also known as Fernão Pires), and Arinto. These grapes contribute to the wine's distinctive flavour profile and aromatic characteristics. Unusually for a white wine, the age has added complexity to this wine reminiscing of great aged white Riojas.

Tasting Notes
Aroma with unique, incredible complexity, ripe yellow plum, honey, some fresh herbs, salty background with phosphorus nuances. Medium body, ample structure supported by good acidity, crispy periphery, lively, stirred wine, quite expressive presence in the mouth, some freshness that contradicts the expectation created from the aroma.

Vintage Port, Douro
With own Cardboard Presentation Box
94 pts Wine Spectator

Review Scores
94 pts Wine Spectator - This is one of the very few Ports where you can discern a scintilla of over-ripeness on the prune and raisin-scented bouquet. It is very heady, but there is a little nail-varnish in the background. The palate is smooth and viscous on the entry – a hedonistic, fiery, honeyed, almost “unctuous” Vintage Port that needs to develop more restraint and reserve on the finish, which is slightly cloying.

An outstanding 2007 Vintage Port Wine from Croft. Please note: this is a rare Magnum bottle of wine - 1.5 liters.
2007 Croft harvest report
The 2007 growing season was preceded by a wet winter that replenished water reserves after four hot, dry years. The humid conditions continued into spring and early summer with lower than average temperatures combined with periods of rain. There were no significant periods of intense heat during the summer months. This ensured that the leaf canopies were in an exceptionally healthy condition and able to benefit from the warm weather that preceded the harvest.

There isn't a lot of complexity early on (noting that this a 20), but it does show some more mature flavors as it airs and warms. Quinta do Noval Nacional, 2001

Vintage Port
Presented in Luxurious Quinta Do Noval gift Box
99 Points - Wine Spectator
98 Points - Wine Enthusiast
98/100 - Tom Cannavan

The 2001 Vintage Port Nacional is a late release, declared in 2003. Christian Seely, Owner of Quinta do Noval said that "The 2001 was extremely backward and quite closed up, dense and very tannic. Since we had just declared and released the 2000 Nacional, we decided to lay down the 250 cases of Nacional 2001. The late release has certainly tamed this. It still feels very firm and has a real backbone, but it is not overly drying and it is a lot more approachable than newly-released Nacionals can be.

Q. Do Noval Director Christian Seeley :
“Although we declared Quinta do Noval Nacional 2001 officially in 2003, we did not release the wine for sale at the time.
