Tasting Notes
Deep ruby colour. Pronounced aromas of red fruit, black currants, cassis, dark chocolate, rock-rose and light peppermint notes. Full-bodied and rich on the palate, this port offers layers of ripe fruits balanced by a firm structure of tannins and a long, powerful finish. Drink from 2024-2045+
Serving and Food pairing
Vintage Ports are best decanted and served slightly below modern room temperature: 16° to 18° C. Pair it with chocolate-rich desserts – such as chocolate fondant with redcurrant coulis or dark chocolate mousse. Goes very well with an intense-flavoured cheeses, like Queijo da Serra, or blue cheeses (Stilton, Roquefort).

Ripe black fruits shine through the rich tannins of this perfumed wine. It has a fine juicy character, balanced with the generous tannins and acidity. This is a full-bore wine, likely to be ready to drink from 2028. Roger Voss

Cask sample. First bottle very slightly corked, I think, but the second one more than makes up for it. Deeply coloured like elderberry juice. More subtle than some 2016s and with a delicate floral character entwined with ripe, black hedgerow fruit. This has quite a different structure compared with the Barros, Kopke and Calem 2016s tasted alongside. The tannins are very fine and dry, the aroma of subtle black fruit and 70% dark chocolate. This has real finesse and a lovely bitter-sweet flavour on the long finish. Excellent harmony already but full of promise. I love the long dry finish. (JH)
