  • Description

This stunning 2023 dry white wine from Quinta Das Carvalhas, is a blend of the indigenous varieties Viosinho, Gouveio, Rabigato, and Códega do Larinho, among others. When looking at producing a top Douro white, the focus was set upon the idea of blending the finest, traditional white Douro varieties and allowing them to integrate in perfect harmony with oak to reinforce its structure and generate more complexity. Carvalhas Branco was born through the winemakers' ambitious approach to the small parcels of white grapes located at one of Quinta das Carvalhas’ highest spots, where the varieties Viosinho and Gouveio benefit from a higher altitude (400m) and cool breezes which are perfect for a good quality ripening of white grapes.

    Tasting Notes
A clean, bright, lemon coloured Douro White, revealing great complexity and aromatic intensity with delicate notes of orange blossom and apricot, which combine with hints of broken stone and dry flowers, allowing beautiful integration of its oaky nuances from its ageing in barrel. On the palate, we get excellent structure and texture, with its complex flavours matching its nose profile with good volume and immense freshness and acidity which ensure its lingering aftertaste. Drink now or cellar up to 15 Years.

    Serving and Food Pairing
Best served chilled, around 8-10°C. Pair with salted Cod, grilled sea bass, seafood rice and sweet and sour pork. As a vegetarian suggestion, an asparagus risotto.

    Winemaking
Vinification of Quinta das Carvalhas White Wine 2023: The grapes are pressed in a pneumatic press. Fermentation begins in stainless steel vats with temperature control and ends in new French oak barrels. This is followed by an 8-month ageing in the same barrels on fine lees.

Quinta das Carvalhas is one of the oldest and most iconic estates in the Douro Valley, with vineyards spread over a vast area, offering a wide range of altitudes and exposures, which contribute to the complexity of their wines. The vineyard practices traditional and modern winemaking techniques to enhance the natural qualities of the grape varieties and the terroir.
