  • Description

This 30-year White Port from Devesa is a field blend made from vines that are at least 50 years old. An aged white Port wine that presents a very complex aromatic bouquet, with great aromas of evolution such as balsamic notes, dried fruits, candied orange peel, raisins, and dried apricots. It is a fantastic, fresh, juicy white Port wine that ends with a mouthwatering acidity. Its significantly superior complexity accounts for most of the flavour difference. With its seemingly never-ending finale, this is simply stunning and closes the sale. A beautiful Port that you will enjoy savouring in your glass.

    Serving & Food Pairing:
White Ports are ready to drink and do not require decanting. Best enjoyed chilled at 12-13ºC on its own as an aperitif, or paired with rich starters such as mushroom risotto. With a freshness beyond age, White Port is also ideal with crème brulee or a spicy apple crumble.

A historic vineyard, Quinta da Devesa was already included as a quality grape growing plot in the first map of the Douro Demarcated Region. The most important history of the property began in 1941 when Jose Fortunato Junior and his wife, Antonia Soares Fortunato acquired Quinta da Devesa and decided to pour their lifetime passion for port wine into the property through great investment in port and, later, dry wine production.
Over seventy years later, harvests of superior quality have been kept and stored in wooden casks in the winery cellars. These are used today to produce the famed tawny and aged white port blends alongside some exceptional colheita ports dating back to 1944.

How to store your White Port:
The bottle should be kept upright and protected from direct sunlight and heat.

The 30 Years White Port is a field blend from old vines (50 plus years). It was bottled in July 2015 with 104 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is not necessarily head and shoulders over the 20 Year tasted this issue, but it is very different. Much darker in color, its main flavor difference comes from its far superior complexity. If it lacks the fresh vibrancy of the 20, it is hardly old, dying or decayed. It is a prime time white Port. Moreover, it finishes with a fascinating array of old Tawny-like flavors, including just a whiff here and there of brandy as it airs and warms. Simply beautiful, this seals the deal with its seemingly endless finish. It's gorgeous. You'll love tasting it because it is delicious. It's also a wine to contemplate, probably my favorite white Port of this report. Note that this was tasted from a 500-milliliter bottle. mark Squires Dec 2015 eRobertParker

At 30-years-old, white Port and its more familiar cousin tawny Port are almost alike in their spice, wood and intense character. The differences with white Ports, as here, are their greater fruitiness, spice and of course their beautiful gold color. They offer a fine, concentrated wine that should be drunk now.
