  • Description

A rare large-format vintage Madeira – this 300cl Jeroboam of 1991 Blandy’s Malmsey is a collector’s dream and a show-stopping centrepiece for celebrations. Ready to enjoy now, but with the structure and sweetness to continue evolving in bottle for decades to come.

    Tasting Notes:
Three decades in seasoned oak casks have shaped this Malmsey into a rich and captivating expression. The nose is a heady mix of dark honey, dates, orange peel, old wood, and baking spices, with a touch of pipe tobacco and treacle. On the palate, it’s luxuriously sweet but perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity – delivering flavours of fig cake, burnt sugar, spiced marmalade, molasses, and roasted nuts. The finish is long, warming, and layered with savoury complexity.

    Serving Suggestions:
It is recommended to pull the cork at least 2 day before enjoying this wine. Decanting will help remove any deposit that may have occurred in bottle over time. Perfect alongside dark chocolate desserts, sticky toffee pudding, blue cheeses, or rich fruitcake. Also a beautiful companion to roasted nuts or a contemplative post-dinner pour on its own. Once opened, this Madeira wine should keep for many months without deteriorating.

    Cellarage
This wine should be stored upright in a dark room with constant temperature, ideally no higher than 16ºC.

    Producer Notes:
Blandy’s is one of Madeira’s most prestigious producers, with over two centuries of expertise. This 1991 Malmsey was aged using the traditional canteiro method, gently heated by the island’s climate, and slowly oxidised in seasoned casks for maximum complexity. Presented in an impressive Jeroboam, it showcases Blandy’s signature style: opulence with finesse.

Blandy's Madeira has been synonymous with quality Madeira wine for over 200 years. The Blandy's are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company. The family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira wine throughout its long history and members of the family continue to live on Madeira, maintaining a tradition that goes back to 1811.

Neal Martin (Vinous): Gave it 95 points, praising its "superb" palate with flavors of Seville orange marmalade, wood varnish, and persimmon. He notes its lively, tensile character and a wonderful unctuous finish.
