  • Description

A beautifully aged sweet Madeira – this 1991 Blandy’s Malmsey in half-bottle format is a perfect gift or indulgence for lovers of fine fortified wine. Ideal for gifting, sharing, or discovering the beauty of mature Madeira without committing to a full-size bottle.

    Tasting Notes:
Three decades of gentle ageing in seasoned oak casks have imbued this Malmsey with richness, elegance, and depth. The nose opens with waves of dried fig, medjool date, molasses, and toasted hazelnut, underpinned by polished wood, orange oil, and warm spices. On the palate, it’s lusciously sweet yet finely structured, balancing flavours of caramelised pear, treacle tart, candied citrus, and spiced fruitcake. Malmsey’s signature acidity keeps everything lifted, leading into a long, warming, nutty finish.

    Serving Suggestions:
It is recommended to pull the cork at least 2 day before enjoying this wine. Decanting will help remove any deposit that may have occurred in bottle over time. Superb with rich desserts like sticky toffee pudding, pecan pie, or crème brûlée. Also excellent with mature blue cheeses or simply enjoyed on its own as an after-dinner treat. Once opened, a Madeira wine should keep for many months without deteriorating.

    Cellarage
This wine should be stored upright in a dark room with constant temperature, ideally no higher than 16ºC.

Blandy's Madeira has been synonymous with quality Madeira wine for over 200 years. The Blandy's are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company. The family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira wine throughout its long history and members of the family continue to live on Madeira, maintaining a tradition that goes back to 1811.

Neal Martin (Vinous): Gave it 95 points, praising its "superb" palate with flavors of Seville orange marmalade, wood varnish, and persimmon. He notes its lively, tensile character and a wonderful unctuous finish.
