The 1995 vintage was, overall, a great year for many wine regions. France enjoyed an excellent year with Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Alsace and the Rhône producing great wines.
Our Wine Expert currently recommends the following wines for this year:
This Year in History: Fun Fact: After setting sail in September of ’94, British woman Lisa Clayton completes solo sail non-stop around the world.
Eurovision Winner: Norway with the song "Nocturne" by Secret Garden
Top Grossing Movie: Die Hard: With a Vengeance
Bordeaux: The 1995 wine vintage produced consistent Bordeaux wines that reached full maturity by 2012. Superb weather in July and August augured well for the crop, however rain in September slightly impaired the quality. Unlike 1994, the rain only lasted for just over a week and those producers that delayed harvesting were rewarded with a harvest of mature grapes. The wines produced from these vineyards are dense tannic affairs that should mature well.
Portugal: The 1995 port wine vintage is rated as very good. If it hadn't directly followed the quite exceptional 1994 Vintage, 1995 could well have been a fully declared Vintage. It did however produce exceptionally good Single Quintas with concentrated, fruity and well-structured ports. The 1995 port vintage also offers plenty of good examples of barrel aged (tawny) port from established producers such as Kopke, Messias, Barros and Krohn that would offer exceptional drinking today, making these excellent 30 year old wine gifts for a 30th birthday or 28th anniversary celebration.

Taylor Fladgate, 1995
Late Bottled Vintage(LBV)
Late Bottled Vintage Ports are produced from the grapes of a single harvest; the vintage of which will be stated on the label, and can be either filtered or Unfiltered (formerly called 'Traditional'). The year of bottling will also appear, typically on the back label of the bottle. LBVs are bottled between the 4th and 6th year after harvest and typically spend those years in very large oak barrels, which are called Tonnels.

Vintage Port
Quinta de La Rosa is a small estate in the heart of the Port wine-growing region in Alto Douro, near Pinhao, owned and operated by the Bergqvist family.

It remains one of the few Single Quinta where the vineyards start at the bank of the Douro and rise 450 meters to the towering top of the mountain. From the river's edge to the top, one passes through 11 different microclimates. This gives La Rosa great flexibility to add variety and complexity to its Ports. …
