  • Description

This is an award-winning wine from 1964 that will challenge your senses! Dry in style with aromas of very old wine and a volatile twist, this wine may come across first as harsh - but there are so many layers and so much complexity beneath this. At our own tasting, it was the one we talked about the longest. There is no middle ground with this wine! 92/100 TC VWP.

This wine’s origin is the result of Antonio Sánchez personal choice over fino wine butts that had a different profile from the rest. After a long time and process of ageing, it acquired a great aromatic complexity. It’s one of the winery’s treasures, acknowledge with a Platinum medal in the Decanter DWWA awards with 97 points.

    D.O.P. Montilla-Moriles.

94-96 Points Wine Advocate - eRobert Parker
The 1964 Palo Cortado Marqués de Poley Selección was aged in a solera system of which 50 botas remain. It's a very old fortified wine produced with Pedro Ximénez grapes, aged in well-seasoned American oak barrels. It is full-bodied, which hints at an Oloroso origin, and has the aromas of a very old wine with rusty nail, saltpeter, low tide, phosphor and matchstick notes with a volatile twist. Wines like this are not meant to be consumed by the general public (the price already prevents that) as their style is not easy to appreciate and might seem aggressive to some. There are 24,000 liters of this wine, and the plan is to bottle it in 375-milliliter bottles. Luis Gutiérrez 2017.
