  • Description

The Sandeman 40 Year Old Tawny Port is a luxurious and complex aged tawny port, known for its exceptional depth and sophistication. This port is the result of meticulous blending and extended aging in oak casks, which imparts rich flavours and a smooth, refined character.

    Tasting Notes
Deep amber with golden and greenish highlights, indicating a long aging process. Its aroma is intricate, with notes of dried fruits, toasted nuts, caramel, honey, spice, vanilla, and oak. The palate is remarkably smooth, rich, and full-bodied, with a harmonious blend of dried fruits, toffee, caramel, cinnamon, nutmeg, and citrus. The finish is long and elegant with a balanced sweetness and a lingering, nutty, and slightly spicy aftertaste.

    Serving & Food Pairing:
Tawny Ports are ready-to drink and do not require decanting. Best enjoyed slightly chilled at 12-13ºC they will work wonders if pairing with treacle tart, crème brulee or nut based desserts, like hazelnut praline.

Sandeman, a renowned wine and port house founded in 1790 by George Sandeman, is known for its high-quality ports and sherries. Initially focused on trading port and sherry wines, Sandeman expanded its operations and introduced the iconic "The Don" logo in 1928. The company has gained international acclaim for its range of styles, including aged tawny ports. Nowadays, part of the Sogrape Group, a leading Portuguese wine company, Sandeman continues to innovate while maintaining its traditional quality and heritage. The company's legacy continues to be a source of pride and innovation.

Luscious waves of freshly cracked nuts, caramel and dried fruit biscuits with an unctuous texture, a breezy drive of energetic acidity and an endless toffee-infused length.

Perfumed nose, sweet and inviting. Rich Crêpes Suzette oranges on the palate with an exquisite balance and a mellifluous palate which not only delivers layer after layer while in the mouth but delivers even more complexity on the finish. Expresses the wisdom and joy of age. Intense and profound.

"This wine confirms Sandeman's reputation for aged tawnies. Intensely perfumed and hugely concentrated, it is a wine for contemplation and sipping. Almonds, walnuts, dried fruit and aged honey flavors all come together in this astonishing Port. Ready to drink, it is totally memorable. Roger Voss" - 96/100, Wine Enthusiast
