*** Gold Medal at the 2015 International Wine Challenge ***

Bright brown colour, with greenish nuances. Presents a bouquet with intense aromas of dried fruits, delicate spices notes and a sweet touch of honey. In the taste it is full, unctuous and velvety. This wine overflows seduction and an enormous refinement. A feeling that is extended in the long and complex finish.

This 40-year-old wine owes its name, Tordiz, to the confluence of the Torto and Mendiz rivers. It is obtained from wines that have been carefully aged in small oak casks and later blended in a small upstanding oak vat dating from 1864. The final mix, in small oak casks, is a vivacious example of the art of “blending”, which Casa Burmester has perfected over the years.

The 40 Year Old Tawny Port is a classic wine of exceptional quality and elegance. The Port is made from a single harvest (a "Vintage Tawny") and aged in small 550-litre oak barrels in their Vila Nova de Gaia Cellars. It is bottled at least seven years after the harvest.

The NV 40 Years Old Tawny Port Tordiz (the name references that the sources for the grapes were between two rivers) is a field blend bottled in March 2022 with a long cork and 127 grams of residual sugar. In Sogevinus's Tawny lineup, this is where they begin to show the complexity and age for real. It seems obviously older, say, than the 30 Year Barros. Still, this remains fresh and balanced, still in a great place. The fruit is not cracking and it tastes great. I loved the grip on the finish to go with the caramel and molasses, plus pungent aromatics. It is impressive. 95 Points- Wine Advocate- (MS)
