Description
A staff favourite, this richly textured red wine comes from the up and coming Bairrada region in Portugal. It is made by the indigenous grape Baga, the flagship variety of the region, aged for 24 months in 50% new French barriques. Baga's small berries and thick skins make for intense, tannic wines. This wine is a strong representation of the Bairrada region and the Baga grape.
Tasting Notes
Intense ruby colour with garnet highlights. On the nose the wine shows Atlantic characteristics, including balsamic nuances of resin and cedar, as well as iodine and salty sensations. It has a large structure on the palate, with excellent tannins, and a high potential for ageing. The wine is notable for its weight, opulent black fruits, fresh acidity, and smooth texture, which ends with dry tannins and a fruity tang.
Serving and Food Pairing
Serve at a temperature of 16°C to 18ºC and pair with savoury meat and game dishes as well as Italian cuisine.

***92 Points- The Wine Advocate, Sept. 2021***
Part of our mini-vertical this report, this is young and aggressive as well, but it might be a bit better balanced than its predecessors (the 2010 and 2013) in various ways. The tannins might not be quite as hard, although they sure aren't ripe. There's a big finish, with the fruit lifted by the acidity. The acidity makes this very fresh, and the freshness cuts through the new wood. For the most part, this is very old-school Baga. For those who want something more refined and forward, look away. Still, this does an awful lot right, and it may well yet improve. It's worth leaning up on it today. It's the type of Baga that makes me compare it to old-school Nebbiolo.
João Paulo Martins (Vinhos de Portugal 2018): The wine was awarded 17.5 points. It has an intense ruby color and features balsamic nuances of resin and cedar, along with iodine and salted sensations. It boasts a huge structure and great potential for aging.
Wine & Stuff: This review rated the wine 93 points, highlighting its complex aroma profile of red fruits, spices, and some evolution. The palate is marked by fresh red fruit, well-integrated acidity, and a long finish. The wine is noted for integrating well with its oak aging, making it a prime example of the Baga grape variety.
***18,5 points, Revista de Vinhos *** Intense ruby colour. Atlantic characteristic wine, where balsamic nuances of resin and cedar get involved with iodine and salted sensations. Huge structure and great potential for ageing.
