Description

The 1975 Quinta do Cachão Vintage Port is a notable expression of Port wine from the Douro Valley, specifically crafted from grapes grown at the Quinta do Cachão estate by Messias. This Port exemplifies the craftsmanship and tradition of Douro Valley winemaking, highlighting the estate’s dedication to quality and the unique characteristics of its terroir.

Tasting Notes
The medium brick colour with slight garnet hues reflects its age and maturity. On the nose aromas of ripe dark fruits such as blackberries, plums, and cherries, possibly with hints of dried fruits like figs and dates. Black pepper, clove, and nutmeg provide spicy notes that add complexity. Full-bodied and rich, with notes of dark chocolate, toffee, and caramelised nuts. Nutty undertones, possibly almonds or hazelnuts, add to its depth. Balanced acidity and integrated tannins add structure and longevity, resulting in a lingering finish with a pleasant warmth.

Serving and Food pairing
Vintage Ports are best decanted and served slightly below modern room temperature: 16° to 18° C. This is the kind of wine that can be enjoyed now or aged even further to allow its flavors to develop and evolve over time. Whether you're sipping it on its own or pairing it with a rich dessert like chocolate mousse or a selection of aged cheeses, a vintage port is sure to be a memorable experience.

Messias was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who served as chairman until 1973. The management is still held by the descendants of the Messias family. Since its foundation, the company has been producing and selling high quality wines from the main demarcated regions: Bairrada, Douro, Dão, Vinho Verde, Beiras and Vinho do Porto. Messias is based in Mealhada, a small city in central Portugal, in the heart of Bairrada region. Here the company has approximately 160 hectares of vineyards. It is one of the few groups which produces and sells a complete range of wines and spirits from the finest Portuguese regions as well as its own estates.

How to store your Vintage Port
Vintage Port, like all fine wines, prefers to remain undisturbed, lying on its side in a dark and at least slightly humid place at a stable temperature of between 10°C and 14°C to mature properly.
