  • Description

These bottles of Croft 1922 Vintage Port was taken from a house in Halifax associated with the Holdsworth family who were big in textiles at the turn of the 20th Century. The cellar has remained closed for 60 years until the new owners opened it to discover a treasure trove of wines and Ports including many bottles from 1922 and 1947. All of the Port has been undisturbed and stored in cool conditions. The colour is exceptional for wines of this era.

The Croft 1922 Vintage Port is an extremely rare and historic wine, made by one of the oldest port houses, Croft, which was established in 1588. Vintage ports from the early 20th century, especially from as far back as 1922, are prized for their history and the craftsmanship that went into their production. The 1922 vintage is now over 100 years old, so tasting it today would be a rare and extraordinary experience. The 1922 Croft Vintage Port is an exceptional wine to open for a special occasion or for collectors. It would be mellow and nuanced, showcasing the elegance and complexity that only comes with a century of aging. It’s important to approach this wine with care—both in terms of serving and expectations—given its advanced age. Vintage port of this era is best enjoyed with the understanding that it will have evolved far from its youthful power into something more delicate and ethereal.

Due to its fragility, it's recommended to carefully decant the wine to remove sediment but avoid exposing it to too much air for too long, as it could fade quickly. If well-stored, this wine can offer an unforgettable and rare glimpse into the winemaking history of the early 20th century.
