  • Description

Blandys Madeira has been synonymous with quality Madeira wine for over 200 years. The Blandys are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company. The family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira wine throughout its long history and members of the family continue to live on Madeira, maintaining a tradition that goes back to 1811.

    About Blandys 2008 Bual Madeira
A medium rich single vintage (Colheita) Madeira. The Bual grapes were predominantly sourced from Calheta, Arco and Estreito da Calheta on the south coast of the island. The wines were then aged for 15 years in 650cl cask at the Blandy’s lodge in Funchal. Just 2,600 75cl bottles have been released.

    Tasting Notes
Colour . Amber with golden nuance, brilliant crystalline.
Aroma . Characteristic bouquet, with notes of jam and marmalade, candied fruits and dried fruits such as nuts and hazelnuts. Mouth . Very rich, soft, sweet and fresh at the same time, with a long nose of wood and dried fruits macerated in brandy.

    Cellarage & Serving
This wine should be stored upright in a dark room with constant temperature, ideally no higher than 16ºC. Decanting is not necessary, but will help remove any deposit that may have occurred in bottle over time. It has been bottled ready for drinking and will keep for several months after opening. Enjoy slightly chilled on its own or paired with appetizers during a meal.

Tasted from a 5-cl mini sample bottle. TA 6.6 g/l, pH 3.35, VA 0.48 g/l, RS 95 g/l. Harvest winemaker and bottling winemaker Francisco Albuquerque. Bottled 2022. 2,600 bottles. Currently they’re sourcing Bual from only 14 ha (34 acres) farmed by 104 growers.
Stunning tangerine and clementine notes. Flute-soaring sweetness. This has extraordinary vinosity and viscosity, pulsing with deeply golden, juice-drenched tropical fruit. Passion fruit and mango. Oolong tea. Maple syrup. Poached quince on rye toast. Honey cake sliced with a bronze blade of acidity. The finish has such purity it feels as if someone turned that bronze blade into a glass prism and played the spine-tingling silver strings of Paganini through the shafted old-gold light. (TC)
