Description
The 1990 Blandy’s Sercial is a bold, dry Madeira perfect for those who value finesse. With over three decades of barrel ageing, this vintage Sercial is poised for further development or enjoyment now on a grand scale. This rare magnum format makes a powerful impression at the table or in the cellar.
Tasting Notes:
Complex and zesty, with lifted aromas of citrus oils, smoke, and aged wood. The palate is bone-dry, racy and layered, with tangy acidity driving long-lasting flavours of spice, nuts and sea salt.
Winemaking:
Carefully crafted by Blandy’s, a family-run Madeira house since 1811, this wine has been aged in seasoned American oak casks using the traditional Canteiro method. The slow oxidative ageing process lends it remarkable concentration and character over time.
Serving Suggestions:
It is recommended to pull the cork at least 2 day before enjoying this wine. Decanting will help remove any deposit that may have occurred in bottle over time. Enjoy lightly chilled as an aperitif or pair with smoked almonds, hard cheeses, or dishes featuring umami and acidity. It’s also an exceptional match for consommé or sushi. Once opened, a Madeira wine should keep for many months without deteriorating.
Cellarage
This wine should be stored upright in a dark room with constant temperature, ideally no higher than 16ºC.
Blandy's Madeira has been synonymous with quality Madeira wine for over 200 years. The Blandy's are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company. The family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira wine throughout its long history and members of the family continue to live on Madeira, maintaining a tradition that goes back to 1811.
