  • Description

The 2020 Vietti Barolo Brunate is a prestigious red wine from one of the most renowned producers in the Barolo region of Piedmont, Italy. Vietti is known for crafting wines that reflect the unique terroirs of the region. Like many Barolos, the 2020 Vietti Barolo Brunate has significant aging potential. It can be enjoyed now with decanting, but it will continue to evolve and improve over the next 10 to 20 years, gaining even more complexity.

    Tasting Notes:
The 2020 Vietti Barolo Brunate is deep garnet red with a rich, complex nose of dark fruits, rose petals, tobacco, and earthiness. On the palate, it offers firm tannins, balanced acidity, and a rich mouthfeel, with flavours of dark fruit, tar, and spices. The finish is long, revealing layers of complexity.

    Serving & Food Pairing:
Suitable for vegans. Decanting for about 1 to 2 hours before serving can help release its full potential. Serve a room temperature and pair with braised meats, game, truffle dishes, or aged cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano.

    Vineyard and Terroir:
The Brunate vineyard is considered one of the top crus in Barolo, situated in the commune of La Morra. This area benefits from an excellent exposure to sunlight and a mix of soils that contribute to a deep, complex flavour profile. The vineyard is characterised by a combination of clay, limestone, and sand, which adds both richness and elegance to the wine.

    James Suckling: 97 Points
"Harmonious and seductive with endless counts of aromas in good depth. Strawberries, crushed raspberries, fresh lavender, tile, mineral and mild spices. Medium to full body with chalky, powerful tannins. Bright and tense at the center with extensive development with sour cherries, mineral, white pepper and grapefruit. The lengthy finish is focused, precise and taut. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Try from 2027.

Wine Advocate (Monica Larner): 95 Points
"The Vietti 2020 Barolo Brunate has a dark and spicy side that is infused throughout the fruit. Dark cherry and blackcurrant are folded into ferrous earth, grilled rosemary, aniseed and a hint of fresh mint. Brunate tends to be quite austere and firm in terms of its aromas, and this vintage shows those qualities well. In fact, the character of the site comes through clearly. The wine has a precise, angular personality, and the fruit feels compact."

    Wine Enthusiast: 95 Points
"This Barolo from the renowned Brunate cru captivates with its youthful energy, showcasing a vibrant bouquet of tart sour cherries, unripe raspberries, and an enticing medley of medicinal herbs. On the palate, a classic structure emerges, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins that support the wine's delicate red fruit flavors, subtle earthiness, and hints of dried rose petals. With its polished elegance, this Barolo is poised to develop even greater complexity over time. Drink 2025 - 2045"

Jeb Dunnuck (Audrey Frick): 95 Points
"The 2020 Barolo Brunate is a more approachable and open wine in the range, with aromas of candied berries, blackberries, rocky soil, and a hint of purple flowers. It’s rounder in the palate, with ripe tannins and a good fresh lift on the finish, with notes of tea leaf and dried apricots. There’s more stuffing, but it remains true to its character. Drink 2025-2040."

    Vinous (Antonio Galloni): 94 Points
"The 2020 Barolo Brunate is a dark, beguiling wine. Black cherry, dried herbs, leather, game, licorice and incense lend gorgeous sepia-toned nuance. Brooding and inward, the 2020 clearly needs time. It is a super-classic Brunate that is hard to read in the early going, but the weight, substance and power are clearly there. Dense, meaty and dark, the 2020 shows Serralunga-like intensity. Drink 2028-2045."
