The wines are characterised by being full bodied and rich.

Italian: The 1955 vintage was exceptional for both Tuscany and Piedmont, producing wines that have become benchmarks of quality in Italian winemaking. In Tuscany, ideal conditions allowed for the crafting of well-structured Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino, noted for their balance, depth, and aging potential. These wines continue to showcase complexity and elegance, with many bottles still offering remarkable drinking experiences decades later. The 1955 vintage is highly valued by collectors, representing one of Italy’s most distinguished years.

Tasting note: The 1955 Spratley Vintage Port is an exceptional and aged port that showcases the depth and complexity of its long maturation. The wine has a deep, dark ruby colour with hints of brick at the rim, reflecting its age. Taylor Fladgate, 1955

    Vintage Port

    Taylors 1955 Vintage Port.
    Review
The only vintage Taylor’s declared in the 1950s. According to the Fladgate Partnership, ‘one of the most underrated vintages of the century’. Taylor’s own two great vineyards in the Douro, Quinta de Vargellas and Quinta de Terra Feita. Both are categorised grade A - the highest possible rating. In years when Taylor’s produces a classic vintage, wines from these two estates are blended together. As they are some 20 miles apart, and subject to very different micro climates, they combine to produce a powerful, long lived and complex vintage port. In 1955 there was a heatwave at the end of April and early May.
