Description
The 1979 Vintage Port from Warre's is seriously attractive. After 4 hours of decanting, it had opened up nicely with lots of fig-like fruits. The palate is rich and infused with age elements with a soft and rich fruit still well to the fore. The fruit is enjoying a late middle to early old age period. No need to drink up yet but age elements will begin to dominate from here on in. If you want fruit then drink now. A fine example of a well aged single-quinta port with a deft Warre's touch of assured wine making showing through the full fourty years from 1979.
Old vines make up a very high proportion of the vineyard, consequently these wines are dark and concentrated, but the south easterly aspect and higher altitude results in a very elegant style. The wines from the lower vineyards that border the Pinhão River are tannic, dark purple-red and concentrated but have superb aromas of tea-rose and violets.
With age, the Cavadinha wines develop even more elegance and balance; the nose can give aromas of very fine old burgundy after some years in bottle.
Long and silky, with plenty of finesse and mellow fruit flavours. Medium ruby, with a nose of currants and perfume, medium-bodied, with tightly knit tannins, medium sweet currant flavours and a balanced finish, this is a harmonious wine.
