  • Description

The 1955 Warre’s Vintage Port is a classic, well-regarded vintage that has stood the test of time. Warre’s, one of the oldest and most respected Port houses, is known for producing elegant and balanced Vintage Ports, and the 1955 is no exception.

    Tasting Notes & Maturity
Now almost 70 years old, this vintage has evolved into a beautifully mature Port with remarkable complexity. On the nose, it typically offers aromas of dried fruits, caramel, walnuts, and tobacco, with hints of spice and leather. The palate is smooth and refined, with layers of fig, dark chocolate, and nuts, all wrapped in a delicate, velvety texture. The finish is long and lingering, showcasing the finesse that Warre’s is known for.

This Port is fully mature, and while well-stored bottles can still offer a rewarding experience, it is advisable to consume soon to enjoy its peak flavors. Given its age, it should be handled carefully, decanted before serving to separate any sediment, and enjoyed at a slightly cool temperature (16-18°C).

    Food Pairing & Enjoyment
A wine of this age and stature is best savored on its own, but it pairs beautifully with blue cheese, roasted nuts, and dark chocolate. It can also be a stunning accompaniment to a relaxed evening, allowing its depth and elegance to be fully appreciated.

The 1955 Warre’s Vintage Port is a true collector’s piece, offering a rare chance to taste a slice of history from one of Portugal’s most respected Port houses.

"Burnt orange colour, firm rim; 60% opaque. Lovely nose, attractive strawberry jam but modest in volume with concentrated oranges. Delightful texture, rich and flavoursome impact. Meaty tones, but with rich and conentrated mandarin providing great balance. Tingling tannins show on the aftertaste, then a terrific finish of great length with a birch-sap tang. Great port. 93/100. Decanted 4½ hours" The Port Forum
