Description
Tasting Notes Deep ruby in colour, almost opaque. On the nose intense aromas of red and black fruits are married with spicy notes of pepper and ginger, hints of cacao and a subtle stony minerality. Great intensity on the palate, with opulent and firm tannins and a lively acidity which carries the intense flavours onto long and complex finish.
Luís Sottomayor describes the 2019 vintage as “a very good year, with freshness and great balance." Winter and spring were cooler and drier than normal, but April showers replenished water reserves in the soil and helped sustain the vines through the dry summer that followed. Summer temperatures were milder than average with cool nights which favoured a slow and steady ripening of the grapes, allowing them to accumulate great intensity of flavour while retaining a refreshing acidity. The harvest at Quinta do Seixo began on 5th September and continued until the end of the month in ideal conditions with virtually no rain.
Serving Tips & Storage
When mature this port will need to be decanted to remove sediment. Serve at room temperature on its own or with steak and blue cheese sauce or vintage mature blue cheeses such as stilton Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Augur Blue. Vintage port is also good with chocolate - a flattering accompaniment to top quality hand-made chocolates and artisan chocolate bars. Please store on its side in a cool dark space away from heat and light. Drink from 2030-2050+.
About Sandeman
Sandeman’s history is a testament to its enduring legacy in the wine world, combining tradition with innovation to maintain its prestigious position in the market. Sandeman was founded in 1790 by George Sandeman, a young Scotsman who began trading in port and sherry wines in London. He borrowed £300 from his father to start his business. By 1795, Sandeman had established himself as a successful wine merchant, and his business began to expand rapidly.
In 1805 he bought a wine cellar in Cadiz, Spain, to secure a steady supply of sherry and in 1811: He purchased a cellar in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal.
Sandeman is notable for its innovation and Marketing. In 1928, the creation of "The Don" logo, designed by George Massiot Brown, marked a significant step in the brand's identity. The silhouette of a cape-clad figure, dressed in a Portuguese student’s cape and a Spanish hat, holding a glass of wine, became an iconic symbol of Sandeman. In 2002 Sandeman was acquired by Sogrape Vinhos, a leading Portuguese wine company.

Benchmark young vintage port. Black plums, kirsch, cherries and dense silky tannins. Bags of liquorice, spices, violets and beautiful texture. A long, velvety finish. A complete vintage port. Recommend decanting.
Gold Medal Decanter 2022 - 95 points
A distinguished, dense and concentrated beauty with expressive blueberry and bramble characters. Flirtatious violet and rose emerge in the middle with a fine line of acidity contributing freshness and appeal. The tannins are ripe and fine, the fruit pure and delicious. Long finish built around dark chocolate tannins. Really beautiful.
