Description
The 1945 Sandeman vintage. The '45 has a a tawny-ruby colour; raisined red fruit - looks longer than its age. On the palate there is some sweetness, surprisingly good acidity, refreshing, fruit that is now figs. Certainly mature - great finish. Tasted at The Don London Sandeman V20 tasting (VWP note)
The Sandeman 1945 Vintage Port is a highly sought-after and historic wine from one of the most renowned Port houses. Given the exceptional 1945 vintage, this Port would have developed incredible complexity over the decades: Colour: Deep garnet, fading to tawny with amber hues at the rim, showing its long ageing.
Nose: Intense and layered, with aromas of dried black fruits (figs, raisins, prunes), dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and hints of leather, tobacco, and cedar. Subtle notes of spice (cinnamon, clove) and nutty undertones may also be present.
Palate: Silky and well-structured, with beautifully integrated tannins. Flavours of stewed blackberries, cherries, and dates blend with caramel, walnut, and hints of liquorice. A refined acidity provides balance and elegance.
Finish: Exceptionally long, lingering with notes of dark fruit, cocoa, and warming spices, leaving a velvety, harmonious aftertaste.
