Description
Real Companhia Velha's 1994 Vintage Port, also known under the "Royal Oporto" label, is a mature wine that has evolved over the decades. Tasting notes from May 2024 describe it as having a pale garnet color with a yellow, mature edge. The bouquet offers aromas of cacao, chocolate, herbs, and hints of an old grocery shop. On the palate, it presents medium body, balanced acidity, and flavors of herbs and chocolate, leading to a quite attractive and rather long finish.
Another tasting note highlights its nose of caramel with hints of leather, and flavors of cherries, toffee, and a touch of tobacco. The wine exhibits good acidity but is noted to be lacking in fruit, presenting more of a tawny profile than a typical Vintage Port.
As of March 2025, this port is fully mature and should be consumed soon to enjoy its current characteristics. Proper storage and decanting are recommended to separate any sediment. Serving at a temperature between 16ºC to 18ºC (60ºF to 64ºF) will enhance its aromatic profile and flavor complexity. This port pairs excellently with blue-veined cheeses, dark chocolate desserts, or can be savored on its own to appreciate its depth and complexity.
