"The 2016 Barbaresco Starderi Vürsù starts with a no-nonsense obscure color and ends with lots of dark fruit on the close. In between, it shows a spot of bitterness on the tongue, delivered with ripe fruit and some rather tight tannins. There are lots of tar notes here too, along with the sort of resin and camphor ash you might not have been expecting from such a youthful Barbaresco. But this one has a heavy center of gravity and is not to be trifled with. It's a big and bold wine that demands a rare cut of beef." Robert Parker

La Spinetta is one Piedmont’s iconic modern wineries having forged an enviable reputation over the last two decades. La Spinetta was founded in 1977 by Giuseppe Rivetti who established the original winery at Castagnole Lanze. Since then it is the second generation, spearheaded by Giorgio Rivetti, that has put La Spinetta on the map with the development of vineyards and estates, talented winemaking and an endless desire to try new things.

La Spinetta started in 1977 but its modern reputation was made in 1995 with the introduction of La Spinetta’s now famous Barbaresco (Gallina). In 2000 La Spinetta bought land in Barolo and set up a brand new winery to produce their Campè Barolo.

The Rivetti family believes passionately in the exclusive use of indigenous grapes and in a style that is individual and distinct from what they see as a globalisation of character and taste. They believe in intensive vineyard work, very low yields (17-20 hl/ha), no use of chemicals, pesticides or fertilizers, extensive green harvesting, and in extremely carefully chosen vineyards.
