Description

Gattinara is a red Italian wine produced from Nebbiolo grapes grown within the boundaries of the commune of Gattinara which is located in the hills in the north of the province of Vercelli, northwest of Novara in the Piedmont region. The wine is made from a minimum of 90% Nebbiolo grapes and is renowned for its longevity.
The 1955 Castello di Lozzolo Gattinara – Troglia is a rare and historic Nebbiolo-based wine from northern Piedmont. Gattinara, known for its elegance and longevity, produces wines with structure and complexity that evolve beautifully over time:
Colour: Garnet with deep amber and brick-orange hues, reflecting its extended ageing.
Nose: A complex bouquet of dried roses, violets, leather, and earthy truffle. Secondary aromas of dried red fruits (cherries, cranberries), tobacco, cedar, and balsamic notes, with a hint of spice (clove, anise).
Palate: Silky and refined, with softened yet persistent tannins. Flavours of dried cherries, forest floor, liquorice, and subtle smoky notes. The acidity remains bright, maintaining freshness despite its age.
Finish: Long and elegant, with lingering earthy, floral, and spicy nuances.
Given its age, this 1955 Gattinara should be carefully decanted to remove sediment and allow its delicate aromas to open up.
