Description

The 1955 Hine Grande Champagne Cognac is an extraordinary vintage cognac, crafted by the prestigious House of Hine, renowned for its dedication to producing elegant and long-lived eaux-de-vie. Sourced exclusively from the Grande Champagne region—the most revered cru in Cognac—this vintage represents the pinnacle of terroir expression and artisanal craftsmanship.

In the glass, it reveals a luminous amber-gold hue, with glimmers of mahogany that reflect its decades of careful aging in oak casks. The nose is profoundly aromatic and layered, offering a bouquet of dried apricots, orange peel, and quince, interwoven with notes of vanilla, honey, and toasted almonds. Subtle undertones of cedar, leather, and baking spices evoke the complexity and depth achieved through prolonged maturation.

On the palate, the 1955 Hine Grande Champagne Cognac is opulent and velvety, with an extraordinary balance of richness and finesse. Flavors of candied fruits, caramel, and butterscotch unfold gracefully, complemented by hints of dark chocolate, nutmeg, and a delicate floral lift. The texture is silky, and the vibrant acidity preserves freshness, leading to an exceptionally long and harmonious finish, marked by warm spice and a whisper of oak.

Hine’s commitment to vintage cognacs is rare among producers, with only exceptional harvests being selected for this designation. The 1955 Hine Cognac is a testament to the house’s meticulous standards and the unparalleled aging potential of Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie.

Perfectly preserved bottles of this vintage are a treasure for collectors and connoisseurs, offering a rare opportunity to savor the enduring beauty of a historic year. The 1955 Hine Cognac is more than a spirit—it is a time capsule, capturing the elegance and craftsmanship of mid-20th-century cognac production.

The story of Maison Hine begins in 1763, on the banks of the Charente River in Jarnac. There, young Englishman Thomas Hine, freshly arrived from his native Dorset, starts as an apprentice at a cognac merchant... whom he will eventually marry the daughter of. He learns the trade, proves himself, and upon his father-in-law's death, naturally takes over the reins of the house, which he names after himself. Generations of Artisan Creators have since followed, each bringing their touch of modernity, their entrepreneurial boldness - expanding the brand internationally, creating new blends, new vintages, and single vineyard cuvées... yet preserving everything that makes the excellence of the house's cognacs: the respect for a lengthy process that allows the eaux-de-vie to reveal their most delicate aromas, from vine to bottle. Since 1999, master blender Eric Forget has continued this tradition.

In the 19th century, symbols became essential in the world of cognac. Thomas Hine chose the stag as an emblem, later trademarked by Isaac Georges Hine in 1867. This symbol, combined with the Hine name, guaranteed quality and reputation. The stag, reflecting the wordplay between Hine and hind, was inspired by a white hart in Dorset, Thomas Hine's home county, a symbol of good fortune. The reclining stag with an upright head was chosen to honor their heritage.

Since 1962, the House of Hine has been the official supplier to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England. It is the only cognac brand to be granted the honour, renewed every five years since, thanks to its dedication to high-quality artisanal production.
