Description
An extremely rare and historic dessert wine from a top vintage in Bordeaux hailing from the Sauternes appellation. A Premier Cru Classé (First Growth) estate, ranked in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Sometimes referred to as 'Ancien Cru du Roy' as displayed on older labels. Sauternes wines from top vintages are renowned for their extraordinary longevity.
Tasting Notes:
Aged examples of such fine wine may showcase deep caramel, honey, dried apricots, candied citrus peel, saffron, and subtle nutty and spice notes of almond and vanilla. With nearly a century of ageing, expect a luscious texture with layers of caramelised fruits, honeycomb, and preserved citrus, balanced by vibrant acidity that keeps the wine fresh.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Serve 1928 Château Suduiraut Sauternes slightly chilled at 10–12°C (50–54°F). Decant gently if sediment is present and allow a few minutes to open up. Pairs classically with Foie Gras, blue cheeses, almond tart, and Thai or Indian cuisine.
Critic tasting note: (1928 vintage) "Just a super wine and a perfect end to a sublime tasting, the wine is loaded with cinnamon, brown sugar, apple pie, white peach, flowers, orange, pineapple upside down cake, orange rind and apricots. Full bodied, bright and showing more acidity than sweetness, the wine is long, complex, concentrated, sweet and savory. " - 97/100, Jeff Leve , The Wine Cellar Insider.
1928 Vintage Report:
1928 was an outstanding year across Bordeaux, with a dry and warm growing season that produced concentrated, long-lived wines. For Sauternes, the conditions favoured the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), essential for creating rich and complex sweet wines.
Condition
Very top shoulder, very fragile label, has been stored well throughout its life.
