Description

The 2016 Château Gloria is an outstanding representation of the Saint-Julien appellation, offering both approachability and long-term aging potential. It’s an elegant, powerful wine that punches well above its price point in such a strong vintage. The 2016 Château Gloria is a top-quality wine from the Saint-Julien appellation, benefiting from one of Bordeaux's finest vintages in recent memory.

Tasting Notes. The blend consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (around 60-65%), Merlot (about 25-30%), with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. In 2016, the Cabernet Sauvignon particularly thrived, thanks to the warm and dry conditions later in the season. Aroma: Complex and aromatic, with abundant notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe cherry, alongside secondary aromas of cedar, tobacco, and spice. There are also hints of graphite, leather, and a touch of floral perfume (violet or lavender). Palate: Full-bodied and well-structured, with ripe tannins and a finely balanced profile. The wine delivers concentrated dark fruit flavors (blackberries, cassis) with a fresh, vibrant acidity that lifts the palate. Layers of tobacco, earth, and a hint of smoky oak provide complexity. The wine’s texture is polished, with a silky mouthfeel despite its firm tannic backbone. Finish: Long and satisfying, with lingering dark fruit, a touch of spice, and mineral-driven notes.

Aging Potential: The 2016 Château Gloria has excellent aging potential. Thanks to its concentration, tannic structure, and balance, it will continue to improve over the next 15-20 years.
Optimal Drinking: This wine can be enjoyed from 2024-2035, but it will continue to develop complexity with further aging. Decanting is recommended if drinking it young (before 2025) to allow the tannins to soften and the wine to open up.
