Description

The 1961 Chateau Gazin is an outstanding classic 'left bank Pomerol' from a legendary vintage. Cellar tracker revies give this 93 points. Nose: Classic Pomerol expressions of plum, damson, black cherry, leather, wood smoke, sweet berries and clay. A very engaging nose. Palate: Surprising vigor in the Black Plum, raspberry, ponzu and tobacco on the palate. Great density that has elements of mocha, toffee and spice in the plum fruit. Finish: Good length.

Château Gazin is a prestigious wine estate located in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, France. With a history dating back several centuries, the estate is renowned for producing exceptional red wines. Encompassing approximately 26 hectares, the vineyard benefits from a unique terroir of clay and gravel soils, ideal for nurturing Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Château Gazin's wines are celebrated for their depth, richness, and complexity, showcasing ripe fruit flavors, supple tannins, and a distinctive Pomerol character. The 1961 Gazin was a fabulous surprise. The wine displayed a knock-out, caramel/chocolate/coffee-scented nose, medium to full body, sweet, expansive, exotic black cherry and fruitcake-like flavors, and a chewy, fleshy, velvety-textured finish. This wine has been fully mature for some time, but it reveals no signs of fruit loss or color degradation.
