Description

Though the region this wine comes from is obvious, the name Buttafuoco has a more complex meaning. It is not a grape, nor a place – it's a style. Buttafuoco is the subject of various folk etymologies (where the meaning of a word changes over time), most of which have a naval connection with a boat named Buttafuoco, which means 'throws fire'. The grapes used to make Buttafuoco wines are of the Barbera, Croatina and Uva Rara varieties, all of which figure among the longer-established vines in Lombardy. This trio create well-structured wines with that tangy red-fruit character so distinctive of classic Italian reds.
