Description
The 1997 Brunello di Montalcino La Gerla is ethereal and delicate on the nose, evoking notes of violets and iris, permeated by spicy hints of cinnamon, tobacco, and leather. The palate is soft, velvety, and rich in fruit, with a long-lasting finish.
La Gerla, once a part of the Biondi Santi estate in Brunello, was acquired by former advertising executive Sergio Rossi in 1976. Just two years later, La Gerla came to life under his ownership. Today, the reins are in the hands of Sergio`s wife, Donatella, with Vittorio Fiore overseeing winemaking. La Gerla’s well-deserved reputation as one of the finest producers in the region stands as a testament to their dedication and expertise.
Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy's most famous and most expensive red wines. It is produced in the vineyards surrounding the town of Montalcino located about 70 miles (110 km) southwest of Florence in the Tuscany wine region. Brunello, roughly translated as "nice dark one" is the unofficial name of the clone of Sangiovese used in production.
