Description

The 1984 Barolo Riserva, a library release directly from the Borgogno cellars, offers up plenty of dried cherries, dried roses, licorice and tobacco, all framed by firm, dusty tannins. Despite its mid-weight body and age, the wine shows plenty of depth and fine overall balance. Borgogno offers an incredible range of older vintages. The estate decants these older bottles to remove sediment, tops them off with wine from the same vintage and re-corks the wines prior to selling them.

Giacomo Borgogno & Figli is considered a dynasty of Barolo. This historic house prides itself as being a harbinger of the traditional style. Brothers Cesare and Giorgio Boschis, grandnephews of the late Giacomo Borgogno are actively manage every aspect of the winery. The vineyards, approximately 50 acres (20.25 ha) thereof, are found in the greatest sites within the Barolo commune - including Liste, Fossati and San Pietro.
Especially notable is Borgogno’s library collection of older-vintage Barolo, one they’ve diligently safeguarded since before WWII. The family continues the practice of cellaring considerable amounts of wine from the very best vintages even today. They periodically re-release, providing the rare opportunity to enjoy perfectly cellared, historic-vintage Barolo. This is truly the best way to understand how traditional Barolo was meant to be experienced.
