Barbarossa produces full-bodied red wine that, while austere in its early life, has the potential to be cellar-worthy. Barbarossa is only occasionally produced as a varietal wine and is more commonly used in blends, rosé or grappa.
When young, Barbarossa wine tends to be fairly closed which is why it often blended with more generous varieties. Varietal Barbarossa will, as it ages, start to show floral aromas of violet and roses, before becoming more gamey and balanced.
