Quinta do Vesuvio

The first reported vintage of Quinta do Vesuvio was in 1830 under the ownership of Bernardo Ferriera. His widow, the Antiona Ferriera later took over the ownership of the estate. Through her decendants the estate passed through the Brito e Cunha Family until it was acquired by the Symmington family. Thier vision ws to create outstanding wines and ports from the estate. Unusually Quinta do Vesuvio declare their port as a Vintage on most occasions.

Vesuvio 2017 Vintage Port Technical Sheets

Tasting Note
This is a powerful, attention-grabbing wine, with taut muscularity. It offers magnificent aromas of rockrose, mint and hints of ginger. The substantial palate is full with expressive black fruit notes lifted by peppery schist tannins (the ‘seasoning’ provided by the Sousa?o).

Quinta do Vesuvio, 1998

Vintage Port, Douro

Vintage Report:
After a mild June, July and August were hot and dry, leading to good even maturation, with the Tinta Barroca looking particularly promising. Maturation studies carried out between 19th August and the beginning of the vintage, determined the following picking order at Vesuvio: Old vineyards; Tinta Barroca; Tinta Amarela; Tinta Roriz; Touriga Nacional; Tinto Cão; and Touriga Franca. Picking began on the 21nd September and continued until 4th October; great care being taken to select and vinify the very best fruit separately, once perfect ripeness had been achieved. Grape quality was very good with average sugar readings an excellent 12o-13o Baumé.

Quinta do Vesuvio, 1992

Vintage Port

*** 90 Points (outstanding) Robert Parker

Reviews:
A supple, charming, dark ruby/purple-colored wine, Quinta do Vesuvio's 1992 Vintage Port offers excellent concentration, a velvety texture, not much weight or tannin, a precocious, penetrating fragrance, sweet fruit, medium to full body, and a gentle finish. It will drink well young and last for 20 years." Robert PArker, Wine Advocate

Quinta do Vesuvio, 1991

Vintage Port

1991 Quinta do Vesuvio. Now Part of Symington family Estates, Quinta do Vesuvio is one of the great Quintas of the Douro. The 1991 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage shows all the hallmarks of a classic Vintage Port. Intense red colour. Packed with aromas of berry fruits such as blackcurrant and graceful floral hints. On the palate very complex fruit flavours, excellent ripe tannins and a sweet and powerful finish.

Wine Makers Notes:
The heavy rains that fell in the early part of 1991 were to stand the vineyards in good stead for the dry spring and very hot summer which ensued. Following the intense August heat, refreshing showers in early September ensured the grapes achieved a very good state of maturity with high sugar levels.

Quinta do Vesuvio, 2001

Vintage Port

The 2001 Quinta do Vesuvio is a very dark ruby colour. The Touriga Nacional’s tiny yields brought great concentration to the wine, while the Touriga Franca, due to the good weather during the harvest, achieved perfect ripening, creating wines of great elegance. The Tinta Barroca was very ripe at the time of picking, with a higher than average baumé, producing wines of excellent structure and ageing potential. The old plantings of Tinta Roriz had lower than normal yields in 2001, giving wines with a typical concentration of berry fruit aromas.
