Description
Messias 1965 Vintage Port – Library Release
A remarkable rarity from the distinguished 1965 vintage, this Library Release Vintage Port from Messias offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a true piece of Portuguese wine history. Unlike the Colheita Ports of the same year, which matured in cask, this wine has aged gracefully in bottle for over six decades. It belongs to one of the rarest categories of Port – a wine made to be savoured slowly and shared on the most special occasions.
Tasting Notes
Now 60 years old, the 1965 Vintage shows a medium amber hue with delicate orange tones. The nose is clean and complex, offering pronounced aromas of dried fruits, caramel, grenadine, grilled hazelnuts, toasted almonds, and a hint of fresh mint. On the palate, it is sweet and full-bodied, with medium-plus acidity that brings freshness and balance. The finish is long, intense, and deeply satisfying – a superb way to conclude an evening or mark a celebration. (VWP Tasting, May 2013)
Serving & Pairing Suggestions
This Vintage Port should be decanted before serving and enjoyed slightly below room temperature (16–18°C). While perfect for immediate enjoyment, it can also continue to evolve further in bottle. Pair it with dark chocolate desserts, rich fruitcakes, or aged cheeses such as Stilton or mature Cheddar to elevate the experience.
A Collector's Gem
Very few bottles of 1965 Vintage Port remain in circulation, and fewer still are in this pristine Library Release condition. With each year, its rarity increases – making it not only a sublime wine for drinking, but also a meaningful gift or investment for collectors of fine and historic wines.
Messias was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who served as chairman until 1973. The management is still held by the descendants of the Messias family. Since its foundation, the company has been producing and selling high quality wines from the main demarcated regions: Bairrada, Douro, Dão, Vinho Verde, Beiras and Vinho do Porto. Messias is based in Mealhada, a small city in central Portugal, in the heart of Bairrada region. Here the company has approximately 160 hectares of vineyards. It is one of the few groups which produces and sells a complete range of wines and spirits from the finest Portuguese regions as well as its own estates.

How to store your Vintage Port

Reviews
Amber, with yellow rim. Amazing nose, oranges, slightly dried, menthol, caramels. Silky smooth entry, syrupy, great balance, rich mouthfeel. Massively long finish - lip-licking oranges. Review by the Port Forum (FlashUK)
